Exactly 30 anniversary since the first Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic characters like the cowboy doll (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, offering a brief look into the storyline but keeping viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Digital Device Spooks the Toys

In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new plaything, one that alarms the familiar toy group. She acquires her first tablet computer, and she is thrilled about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

One thing the teaser doesn't touch on is why Woody is returned with his friends in the child's bedroom. The finale of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with Bo Peep (the actress), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys find good homes.

Surely, the filmmakers will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him appear in the familiar setting unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is Duke Caboom (Keanu Reeves)?

Continuity from the Last Installment

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the prior film. The final act Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), entrusting her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser shows the insignia pinned to her outfit.

Hopefully she is still the driving force among the toys.
